New Hamburg ROMEOS Calling

The original purpose of the group was to bring together new neighbours who had moved from other parts of the Province of Ontario and also from other Provinces of Canada to our community of New Hamburg.

Initially the group was only composed of men from one street of the community but it has expanded to other areas as the need required. Initially the ROMEOS were run as a unique and isolated entity because the members had not been exposed to or were aware of the Organization's history and development. It only adopted the ROMEO name when it was found and referenced in a novel read by a member's wife.

The founding members then proceeded to allocate 'call signs' to each new participant based upon the Greek alphabet, Alpha to Omega, and grant a scroll to the new members.

Presently, we have 20 members as of January 1, 2013. This reflects a fluctuation of new and removed members from our inception. We may have to find a new alphabet very soon to maintain newer 'call signs'!!

I retired in 1999 after being employed for 30 years in the steel coating business in Hamilton, Ontario, as the manager of the IT Department. Prior to that, I was a teacher in the elementary school system of Ontario for 5 years where I started teaching in a one room rural school with grades from 1 to 8 and later taught grades 7 and 8 in a senior school.
