New Hamburg ROMEOS Calling

The original purpose of the group was to bring together new neighbours who had moved from other parts of the Province of Ontario and also from other Provinces of Canada to our community of New Hamburg.

Initially the group was only composed of men from one street of the community but it has expanded to other areas as the need required. Initially the ROMEOS were run as a unique and isolated entity because the members had not been exposed to or were aware of the Organization's history and development. It only adopted the ROMEO name when it was found and referenced in a novel read by a member's wife.

The founding members then proceeded to allocate 'call signs' to each new participant based upon the Greek alphabet, Alpha to Omega, and grant a scroll to the new members.

Presently, we have 20 members as of January 1, 2013. This reflects a fluctuation of new and removed members from our inception. We may have to find a new alphabet very soon to maintain newer 'call signs'!!

Romeo Lunch, December 13, 2012

Greetings to All

This is a reminder to all Romeos that this coming Thursday, December 13, 2012,
will be our 2nd Annual Christmas Lunch where we will be joined by our partners.

A reservation has been made for the Stratford Festival Restaurant, where if space
permits, we will be seated in the Solarium Room on the lower level of the Anne
Hathaway Room.

At last count, it was expected that a possible 28 Romeos and Juliets could attend,
and the Committee suggests that we all arrange our own carpool to be at the restaurant
by 12 noon.

The meeting started with Alpha welcoming the Juliets who were then toasted by the Romeos.
This was then followed by Beta entertaining the group with appropriate jokes of the day which were received with gusto.
The last speaker was Gamma who thanked the Committee for their work in organizing the biweekly luncheons.
All in all, it was a merry time that was had by all.

We were also given an update by Jon on his future plans in the Community.
Sadly, he and Nancy are returning to Calgary where they will be with Family.
This will be Jon's last Romeo lunch before he heads west on the long road trip.
All of us wish him and Nancy the very best.

It was also confirmed that our next Romeo Lunch, December 13, 2012, will be a
joint co-ed Christmas lunch to be held jointly with the Romeos and Juliets at
the Stratford Festival Inn. Seating will be arranged in the Solarium Room.

The Committee looks forward to hosting this special seasonal event.

Romeo Luncheon, November 15, 2012

The Romeos met at the Waterloo Arms in New Hamburg today.
With drinks and a fine lunch we were able to enjoy this location once more.
Marilyn dropped off Phil and Elaine delivered Bob in good time.
The car pooling was used to get the other members to the pub.
Those in attendance were: Ken, Ron, Jack, Dennis. Rick, John, and Charlie.
Some members were missing because of trips going South or a personal nature.
A good time was had by all.

Romeo Luncheon, November 1, 2012

Our Lunch outing this week was to experience the old German
Concordia Restaurant in Kitchener at Ottawa and Homer Watson.

Concordia Club KW

Today we went to experience the fine menu and beer available in the Schenke Restaurant with the hope of meeting some members of the German Women's Soccer Team rumoured to be visiting. Go Team Go.
Can you believe that we just missed them!!! Something about having to change.

Today, we welcomed our newest member to the group, namely Charlie Klager.

Charlie  and his wife Jan are fairly new residents to our community and we wish them well. Charlie is our first member from Phase 5 at Stonecroft.

After receiving his official certificate as a new bona fide member of the
Romeos, Charlie gave a brief bio of his life before Stonecroft.

We look forward to having 'Zeta' join us at future lunches.

Romeo Lunch, October 4, 2012

Today, the Romeos lunched at Finn MacCools in Kitchener.

This is a pub that has been there for just over a year but was not on the radar.
The drive from Stonecroft takes about 25 minutes but it is an easy drive.
The group was small but just right for an interesting conversation.

We were greeted by a lovely lass with the fine Irish name of Megan who we
all wanted to adopt. She in turn, treated us as she would her grandfather with
Ivan as usual monopolizing her time.

                                                          Dennis                               Carl
                                                       Rick                                   Jack
                                                   Ivan

The drinks were varied but just right and the lunch was served well and tasted good.

Romeo Lunch, September 20, 2012

Greetings to all ROMEOS,

Yesterday we convened our bi-weekly luncheon at a new venue in Kitchener.

The Borealis Grille and Bar is a new concept that attempts to use only selected
local producers in their kitchen. As well they supply only local micro-brewers
and their products.

The whole experience was greatly appreciated by the attending members.
It will surely be on the list for future lunch sites and would be a nice venue
for dinner with your Family.

www.borealisgrille.ca

It was also an important outing for one of our original members, who is
struggling with some health issues. As such we enjoyed having Ray's company
after such a long time when he was unable to attend.

To all the members who assisted with his needs, many thanks for your help.

Romeo Lunch, August 23, 2012

This week we visited the Festival Inn Restaurant in Stratford.

In attendance were 8 Chapter members and 1 guest.

Our guest was a good friend of Carl who was staying with him
for a few days. Rob was visiting Carl and Norma from their home
in Staynor which is north of Barrie.
They leave when they :
1. Overstay their visit or
2. Carl runs out of Wiseners
Whichever comes first.

As usual we left for lunch around 11:15am and drove to Stratford.
The staff at the Inn had reserved a table for us in the very unique
solarium room that has the water cascading down over the glass
roof panelling. Very soothing for the boistrous group attending.

         Carl                                                      Rob                               Ken 'Gamma'
         George                                                                                       Dennis
         Bob                                                                                               Ken 'Omega'
         Ivan                                                                                              Jack

The Jokes of the day were presented by Bob, Jack, Carl and Rob. Yuk, Yuk to all for their presentations.

As you can see, you can't ask for a better ambiance for such a refined group.

Thanks to the drivers (Ken, Rob, Dennis) for their transportation.

The Committee was pleased to welcome Jack back to the outing  and by the response from its members.

We shall return.

Romeo Lunch, August 9, 2012

This Thursday, the members decided to lunch at Kennedy's Pub in St. Agatha.

It has been awhile since we last visited this cosy Irish pub and its great beers.

We placed our orders with Suzette and were seated before any of the regulars
arrived. It's like we all know each other even though it has been some time since we were there.

As usual, the food is great and the beer, wine, etc. was refreshing. We even had
members order a Bloody Mary as well as the normal Wisener and pepsi.

Thanks to John Fenwick and Carl who drove the members to lunch where we met Phil after his appointment.

Romeo Lunch, July 26, 2012

Today, we visited the Waterloo Arms in New Hamburg.
This was the second time that the Romeos have lunched there.
It is convenient and the food and beer are great.
A good following was on hand and the companionship was it's usual
give and take. No quarter given.

We started with Ken Mulholland citing Carl as being recognized by
the whisky industry, namely Wisers, as one of two experts on the
design and production of this whisky. The Chapter was not surprised.

This was followed by Ross Shaver sharing his blonde joke story which
was acceptable in any public house and received the kudos it deserved.

Romeo Lunch, June 28, 2012

Greetings to all Romeos, nay hoh.
Our bi-weekly lunch is scheduled for this Thursday, June 28, 2012.
It is therefore incumbent for the Committee to organize an outing to
a place that will indulge such a group with vitals and drink accordingly.
In keeping with the reckless nature of the members, it has been decided
that a taste of the Orient would be in the best interest of the group
and broaden the nature of that said group.
That being said, the Committee has selected the establishment of Kam Yin
in Kitchener, where we will feast on truly Oriental fare which will be adequately
numbered for those who do not speak Cantonese.
Click on the link below for menu and information.
Food was good and timely to the table.
Popular lunch spot for the work crowd.
A bit noisy with the people in a small area.
The host appears to be a bit surly and is all business when taking orders.
He does not communicate well. Better with the waitress but she is overworked.

ROMEO Lunch, June 14, 2012

This Thursday, June 14, 2012 the lunch venue has been established for the Williamsburg Arms in Kitchener.

The Committee selected this location based upon:

1. The selection of beers on tap

2. The serving waitresses

3. The selection of beers on tap
