New Hamburg ROMEOS Calling

The original purpose of the group was to bring together new neighbours who had moved from other parts of the Province of Ontario and also from other Provinces of Canada to our community of New Hamburg.

Initially the group was only composed of men from one street of the community but it has expanded to other areas as the need required. Initially the ROMEOS were run as a unique and isolated entity because the members had not been exposed to or were aware of the Organization's history and development. It only adopted the ROMEO name when it was found and referenced in a novel read by a member's wife.

The founding members then proceeded to allocate 'call signs' to each new participant based upon the Greek alphabet, Alpha to Omega, and grant a scroll to the new members.

Presently, we have 20 members as of January 1, 2013. This reflects a fluctuation of new and removed members from our inception. We may have to find a new alphabet very soon to maintain newer 'call signs'!!

Romeo Lunch, July 25, 2013

The Romeos of Stonecroft went for lunch at McCabe's Irish Pub and Grill.

This was the first time there for all of us except Ross who recommended it
after having eaten there last week.

A total number of 10 members attended which was a good group considering
it was a bright sunny golf day for some.

A reservation for 10 was made for the Romeos and with 3 vehicles we left
Stonecroft at 11:15 am for the drive to Kitchener and lunch.

Parking was not a problem and we were soon seated and ready for our drink
and food orders.

We were joined by Harry McCarthy, who has just moved into the complex and
invited to join us by his neighbour and member George Heath.

After the first order of business, our toast, Ron(Beta) greeted Harry and after
each member was introduced proceeded to explain the rules of the club.

We then asked Harry to give a brief bio of himself. Although downplaying
his background, he said that he had come to Canada 60 years ago after being
in the RAF during WWII where he flew a Lancaster bomber. He subsequently
worked as a CPA for the balance of his work life before retirement.

Needless to say, we hope he enjoyed the Romeos and we would welcome him
as a new official member should he wish to join.

It was also a time to hear from John Matthews regarding his recent stay in hospital.
John said the procedure was successful and he should be playing golf in a few weeks.

As well we certainly were pleased to know that our good friend Carl was home
and recovering nicely. Our lunches are only complete when he is there.

Harry may have to rethink his ordering patterns.
Thanks to Charlie for this picture.

Romeo Lunch, July 11, 2013

Today the Romeos drove to the Nith Valley Chop House in Wellesley
about 15 miles north from New Hamburg.

The car pooling was made up of two cars for 7 members.

We arrived after 11:30am and were met by a friendly young waitress
who took our drink order to start.

At this time we caught up on the news regarding the members who
could not attend.
An update on John(Kappa) Matthews who had just gone through
surgery was given by George(Upsilon). The operation was successful
and we should see John soon.
As well, George's eye operation has gone well and he is on the road
to recovery.

Ron(Beta) Lewis shared a joke of the day with the group which was
followed by Ken Edgar(Mu) and his contribution.

The members, despite the slow service, enjoyed their lunch.
