New Hamburg ROMEOS Calling

The original purpose of the group was to bring together new neighbours who had moved from other parts of the Province of Ontario and also from other Provinces of Canada to our community of New Hamburg.

Initially the group was only composed of men from one street of the community but it has expanded to other areas as the need required. Initially the ROMEOS were run as a unique and isolated entity because the members had not been exposed to or were aware of the Organization's history and development. It only adopted the ROMEO name when it was found and referenced in a novel read by a member's wife.

The founding members then proceeded to allocate 'call signs' to each new participant based upon the Greek alphabet, Alpha to Omega, and grant a scroll to the new members.

Presently, we have 20 members as of January 1, 2013. This reflects a fluctuation of new and removed members from our inception. We may have to find a new alphabet very soon to maintain newer 'call signs'!!

Romeo Lunch, October 31, 2013

Greetings Romeos,

Once again we are faced with the decision of 'to be or not to be'.
That is the question.
Do we attend the lunch for the Romeos and get a taste for the 'blood' sport, or do we languish in a state of 'who cares' and become the hunted.
The choice is clear on Halloween.
Join us at the Fireside for a varied menu where the best of Kitchener dine.

Let's toast the Snow Bird members who have made their annual trek to points south and to the rest who will follow in the coming days.
For those of us still standing, now is the time to bond as one.
Please reply to the writer of your intentions to join us and whether you can drive to the venue.

As always,

The Ad Hoc Zombie Committee
                                                                  -------------

Today we lunched at the Fireside Restaurant with 8 members present.
At our reserved tables we were greeted by a charming  server who
took our drink orders. The choice of on tap beers was limited but with
that and available bottle beers all members were satisfied. The choice
between alcoholic and soft drinks was about even, which signifies that
the 'big' drinkers are on their way south.
Look out America.
The Canadians have landed.

With the food orders served, the group ate heartily on the huge portions
delivered. This can be 'doggie bag' heaven.

Carl gave us an update on his training and practice sessions with the new
prothesis and he is progressing nicely at the rehab programme.
He hopes to be able to visit his son in Arizona this winter.

John Matthews and Gina leave tomorrow for South Carolina and their annual golfing vacation with their normal large group. They will return briefly over December and then head for 3 months in Fort Myers.

John Fenwick and Barbara leave for their Florida home on November 16 and stay there until the springtime.

Rick and Linda are hoping to spend some time in Mexico.

Ron and Elaine also have winter plans for Mexico during February.

Dennis and Joan are still preparing for a trip to Tucson for 3 months.

With many of the members being unavailable early next year, it was decided to postpone any meetings during February and March of next year.

After lunch we returned home to Stonecroft by 1:30 pm.

Romeo Lunch, October 17, 2013

Today the Romeos lunched at the Trails Edge in Plattsburg.

The Trails Edge Tavern

Nine members in two cars driven by John Matthews and John Fenwick
arrived at the pub just on 11:30am.

Our waitress decided to seat us at a different area because it would be
more suitable for Carl's wheel chair.

After drinks were served and the toast was made, Ron and Dennis amused
the group with their jokes of the day.

It was good to see John Fenwick again since he has been involved with
working on his retro trailer.

Carl gave us an update on his prothesis which is almost ready for the
necessary testing that follows.

Wray and Diane's renos are nearly finished in the house.

Rick is still considering his trip to Mexico this winter.

Both Johns' are leaving shortly for points south for golf and warmth.

Everyone was glad to see Phil again and we hope we provided enough
depravity and hamburger for his lunch.

Ron got agreement to lunch at the Fireside restaurant on our next outing.

Harry has been requested to find a lunch place for the group after that.

Shortly after 1:00 pm we left to return home, satisfied with the lunch
and friendship that is the Romeos.

Romeo Lunch, October 3, 2013

Hello Fellow Romeos and Guests,

The Committee has concluded that it is in the best interest
of the Chapter members to lunch at the Waterloo Arms in
New Hamburg this Thursday, October 3, 2013.

Check out the location and menu by accessing:

Please advise if you can join us and whether you can provide transportation.

To make reservations for a group, it assists knowing the above by Tuesday.

As usual, we will advise of the car pooling for those attending by Wednesday.

Be ready for pickup by 11:15am on Thursday.

We would expect to return by 1:30pm.

Guests are welcome to join us, but be advised that a code of silence exists.

We look forward to seeing as many as possible for lunch, jokes and gossip.

We drove to the Waterloo Arms in 2 cars with 9 members in all.

Once there we were seated at the reserved table for nine as arranged.
After our drinks were served a toast was made to all there.
After a brief chat and a good sip, Dennis started to tell the story about the fellow who had severe headaches and finally went to the doctor.

At this point another member arrived and the tale was stopped. Carl had arrived in his wheel chair, courtesy of Norma. The table was still large enough to seat Carl and once he was in place, Dennis recapped the story to date and proceeded to tell the rest of it; however in a matter of minutes another member appeared and the telling of the tale was stopped once again. At this time the table was not large enough to accommodate another member, so we reconfigured more tables to satisfy the seating. Only then did the story resume for what we hoped was worth waiting.

Now having 11 members to serve, our waitress did an outstanding job.

With the regular menu and lunch specials available, there was plenty from which to chose.
