New Hamburg ROMEOS Calling

The original purpose of the group was to bring together new neighbours who had moved from other parts of the Province of Ontario and also from other Provinces of Canada to our community of New Hamburg.

Initially the group was only composed of men from one street of the community but it has expanded to other areas as the need required. Initially the ROMEOS were run as a unique and isolated entity because the members had not been exposed to or were aware of the Organization's history and development. It only adopted the ROMEO name when it was found and referenced in a novel read by a member's wife.

The founding members then proceeded to allocate 'call signs' to each new participant based upon the Greek alphabet, Alpha to Omega, and grant a scroll to the new members.

Presently, we have 20 members as of January 1, 2013. This reflects a fluctuation of new and removed members from our inception. We may have to find a new alphabet very soon to maintain newer 'call signs'!!

Romeo & Juliet Luncheon, December 29, 2011

Hail Romeos,

As the last luncheon for 2011, we were privileged to be accompanied by
our Juliets to Kennedy's Pub in St. Agatha.

In all, there were 9 couples less 1 who answered the call. Unfortunately, a few
were not able to join us because of prior commitments at this busy time
of the year.

Our Beta member, Ron Lewis, opened the lunch by reviewing the critical
words that are used by wives during 'dialogues' with their spouses, with
the warning that the true meaning of certain words is quite different and
must be observed at all times or we could risk the wrath that will follow.

Ron also explained the rules that all our members must observe. No Rules.

Attending was Wray Krompart, a new member who was inducted into the
Chapter by his sponsor, George Heath.

The other inductee who was called away at the last minute, Jon Knight,
will be presented with his certificate by Jack Davies, who is his sponsor,
at a later time.

As requested by the Committee, a suitable decorum was observed by
our ladies; however the Romeos had no objection to table dancing by the same.
This was a challenge, that some of the ladies accepted, and in due course
the Romeos were entertained by Lyn, Elaine and Marilyn.
It can be said that no monies changed hands.
It might also be added that no Romeo in the room could even think of
matching this accomplishment.
It's doubtful they have the energy but certainly they don't have the body.

Book 'em John!!!Use the hand cuffs!

Well done ladies!!!

Afterwards, all agreed that this special lunch at year end with the Juliets,
was a success, and should be repeated in future years.

Romeo Luncheon, December 15, 2011

The Romeos went to a new restaurant that has just opened in New
Hamburg called 'My Place, the Restaurant' run by a husband and wife.
Before opening, they updated the ambiance from a sport's bar
to a cosy eatery.

Our only hesitation was the fact that you have to climb a number
of steps to the second floor and we discussed this with some
members who might have trouble.
Fortunately, all members were able to negotiate the steps.

We were warmly greeted by the owner who took our drink orders.
There were 9 of us at a grouping of tables with ample room to socialize.

Very soon after 12:00 noon various customers entered and soon most
of the tables were taken.

The menu was quite extensive with a breakfast serving until 2:00pm,
as well as the normal fare and of course the Greek dishes. Our orders
were taken and the food arrived in good time and all members were
satisfied that they had a new restaurant to visit near home.

It was suggested that since the next outing would be December 29, 2011,
we might consider inviting our partners to join us in the spirit of Christmas.

All in all, we will return when the occasion permits.

Romeo Luncheon, December 1, 2011

Once again the Romeos met at Jake and Humphreys in downtown New Hamburg.

A complement of 10 attended and I believe we were the only ones for lunch.

This was fine, since we had the whole bistro to ourselves and the rapt attention
of the waitress, which meant fast service on the libations for which we appreciate.
The meals were presented to the members in good time and were presented well.

Ivan was in good spirits, since he had the second eye done on cataracts and could now see in colour. It's been so long that he thought coke was green?

Brian is not heading south till the end of the year.

Jack is still going for tests but is still persevering with his feet. Hold in there Jack!!

Ken Mulholland has just returned from his caucus in Turkey and happy to be home.

Ken Moorehead and Evelyn are looking forward to their upcoming vacation in
the Dominican Republic.
Ken will once again be given the onerous task of rating the 'open adult' beaches.
Such a problem!!

A good time was had by all and we look forward to our next outing.

Romeo Luncheon, November 17, 2011

Welcome back to the Boar's Head Inn in Stratford.

The Committee selected this venue 'in camera' and consequently 3 members
of the selection Committee tendered their resignation because they claimed
that vote tallying and opaqueness were wanting.

The remaining members( all abstainers ) will continue to abstain and make the
selection process run more smoothly in the future.

A total of 8 members attended the lunch and are were amply rewarded with
great meals and drink.
Deserts were unique and tasty for those who ordered.

It was good to see Ron Laitar attend after his cruise to Hawaii.

A new member in Brian Olson was inducted into the Order by John Fenwick.
Brian accepted the diploma under the quasi name of Phi. Welcome Brian.

A good lunch for all.

Romeo Luncheon, November 3, 2011

Are You Ready for a New Eating Spot at a New Location?

Welcome to the Big Burg of Plattsville.

There we will have lunch at The Trail's End which is a newly revamped pub
on the main street at 46 Albert.

This was a location recommended by our good friend Carl.

Look forward to sampling the menu and the libations available.

See you there.

Romeo Luncheon, October 20, 2011

Our luncheon will be held at Kennedy's Pub in St. Agatha this week.

A member favourite that we always enjoy because of the great pub grub and
the wide selections of brews.
It doesn't have to be St. Paddy's Day to enjoy.

As per the Committee schedule, we will leave at 11:15 am with the assigned
vehicle and arrive at our destination by 11:30 am.
2 members should meet us there on their own.

Welcome a new guest in Brian Olson

Look forward to a great lunch with great people.

Romeo Luncheon, October 06, 2011

Once again, the Chapter met for lunch at the Williamsburg Arms Pub.
This has become one of our favourite establishments to meet for cheer.

The Committee had promised that we would once again be served by
2 of the most delightful waitresses that we have met to date. You know,
the blonde and brunette, young, and with figures to die for and easy on
the eyes. All-be-it for the Committee to be wrong; however we did get
the attention of another who was more than OK.

A good time was had by all.

Romeo Luncheon, September 22, 2011

Our membership luncheon was held at the Wellesley Chop House on the Nith.

Upon arriving at this establishment the door was still locked after 11:31am.

At this point the Committee was called into question on this turn of affairs!!
What to do??

With true diplomatic tact one of our members banged on the window while
another yelled at shadowy figures seen through the window.

This achieved the result, in that we were confronted by the waitress who informed us that the Royal Constabulary had been called ( A Newfie for sure). This was much better than the riot squad who we know quite well on a first name basis.

It seems that the kitchen was in the throes of being updated and this was taking longer than had been expected; but, we were welcome to enter and place our drink orders.

That satisfied the unclean and unquenched members and we proceeded to partake of their finest.

The food could have been warmer but once the gas is hooked-up we should see
a difference.

Romeo Luncheon, September 8, 2011

Today the Members of the Chapter were greeted at the Failte Irish Pub
in Waterloo at 75 King Street North.
In the Irish, Failte means 'Welcome'.

Failte built in 1865

This lunch was attended by 6 members who enjoyed the coziness of the bar area.

Attendees:John Fenwick, driver
Ron Lewis, Ross Shaver, Phil Thomas, Bob Curry, Dennis Savage

The ale and beer were as expected for an Irish pub and the menu was good.

Cheers

Romeo Luncheon, August 25, 2011

Welcome Fellow Romeos,

It has been determined by your Committee that we will host our bi-weekly
lunch at the Dominion House Bar and Grill at 3 Guelph Street in Stratford.

As this will be our first experience at this place of intrigue, you will be required
to follow the 'buddy system' while on the premises. A head count will be
necessary upon entering and especially leaving.

The biggest problem to this establishment was to find the entry door.

Once inside we were welcomed by Riley who would serve us. Nice server for a guy.

Not too busy on Thursday for lunch.

This pub was established in 1865 and was a forerunner for food and
accommodation beside the rail line terminuses of the day.

Rick               Ken
                                                              George          Barry
    Ray                Ron
  Dennis           Carl

All in all this was a good place to meet with the Romeos

Romeo Luncheon, August , 11, 2011

Welcome to our Romeo Luncheon,

Our meeting for lunch this Thursday will convene at The Annex Cafe
which is in the Festival Town of Stratford.

This will be the second week of the Music Festival which runs for five more.

Hopefully you have attended some of the great programmes to date from
countries outside Canada as well as our own talented musicians.

A first time visit to this new venue will be interesting to see the menu and ambiance.

With new members joining our group, the Committee has prepared diplomas
that will be presented to them by their sponsors.

Barry Squires who recently returned from Texas, will be given the call name 'Sigma'.

Ron Lewis, who is long over-due his diploma and as the co-founding member
of the Chapter will officially be given the call name 'Beta'.

In Good Fellowship and Cheer,

Romeo Chapter of New Hamburg

Romeo Luncheon, July 14, 2011

Hello Fellow Romeos,

The Committee has chosen The Williamsburg Arms in Kitchener
as our next luncheon venue.

These venues are scrutinized by our Ad Hoc committee whose sole
purpose is to once again select a location fitting our members tastes.
Ad suggests possible locations and Hoc takes into account the menus.
Together, they have justified our collective trust.

We are offering a seating area, either on the open aired patio, or on
the inside if the weather dictates.

Should we use the patio, and there is no mixed company present,
it is permissable to play with your kazoos.

Romeo Luncheon June 30, 2011

Hello Romeos,

The Committee has chosen Kennedy's Pub in St Agatha for this outing.

It was passed when the straw vote of 4 for and 0 against with 1 abstension was counted.

The abstainor awoke shortly after the vote count because of:

'Support our Troops'

Remember those who returned on the 'Highway of Heros'

The Chapter would like its members to acknowlege that Friday, July 1, 2011 is Canada Day, and a toast would be in keeping with this day.

Happy Canada Day

Romeo Luncheon, June 16, 2011

Bonjour Mes Amis, et Ivan,

C'est le temp....... en anglais sil vous plait!!

Hi Y'All,

It's time to put on the feed bag again and experience a new provider
of good grits, right here in the heart of Puslinch Lake.
It was a problem obtaining a recent picture of this famous eatery, because
of its renown and its elitist clientelle, as well as the chef who wants to remain
anonymous. The Committee, however has their means and a picture is provided only for our members.

As you can see, it is the Committee's primary purpose to select new
restaurants suitable to the taste of its members and once again
the Committee, has again exceeded its mandate.
The Chef still maintains his anonymity and we ask that you observe his
wishes. Something about the witness protection programme.

Since this is a class bistro, we ask that you refrain from any reference
to todays road kill, especially in front of our waitress and certainly not in earshot of the Chef.

We hope to be able to take advantage of the deck area overlooking the
lake while we lunch. There is a discounted lunch for any fish? you catch
while on the deck 'Catch of the Day'. Please supply your own poles and bait.
Anything with concrete boots attached is to be immediately released.

Special Dinner May 3, 2011

Calling All Romeos,

A special dinner was arranged for our member 'llamda'(Phil Thomas).

We thank our 'gamma'(Ken Mulholland) for organizing this function which is a first for the Romeos.

The dinner was held at Jake and Humphreys in downtown New Hamburg at 6:00pm.

In attendance were 8 Romeos and a guest. The invited guest was Rick Kieswetter who was a pleasant surprise at our outing and was invited to our regular Thursday lunches when he could find the time.

We were glad that we were able to entertain Phil and Rick for a brief time while they batched it at home.

The meal at the bistro was elegant and tailored to our needs as a group.

Once again, a great time was had by all and this feature should be considered in the future.

Inviting the Juliets on a 'special' occasion for dinner might be considered by the Romeos.

Romeo Luncheon April 28, 2011

Salutations to All Members,

Belated Happy Easter to you and your Families.

If the Easter Bunny was good to you, then thank Hugh Hefner.
The Committee does not publicly endorse such behaviour, but the voting was so very close.
Please advise the Romettes accordingly!!

Now to the subject at hand. The Committee under the direction of 'beta'
has determined that the coming Romeo outing will grace the establishment known as the
'Nith River Chop House'.

A repeat performance suggests that the members are willing to partake of  the menu at any time.

Once again you may notice that the St. John's ambulance is on station, just in case. Rest easy Romeos. The Committee has you covered.

As normal, the number who desire to meet, will determine the transportation needed and will be forwarded by 'beta' to all members.

Good hunting and remember your ABC's.

Romeo Lunch April 14, 2011

Greetings to all Romeos,

This coming Thursday will be our lunch outing for all good Romeos to come to the aid of the Chapter and experience yet again good food and fellowship with your brother members.

As we approach the Federal election and our Condominium election, there is no better way to 'chilli out' than to eat and sup with your neighbours.

Remember that the universe is unfolding as it should but that good food is devoutly to be wished.

That being said, the Committee on the recommendation of Beta, has determined that we should grace the establishment known as 'Jacks' in the St. Jacob Market area.

Their menu is extensive for all tastes, and shakes, smoothies etc. are to die for.

Please reply by the 'signup' if you are planning on attending.

Ron 'Beta' Lewis will advise you of the transportation arrangements when the number is known.

Good supping!!

All of this will be convened at the Williamsburg Arms, in Kitchener.

Those who are able to join, are asked to sign up for the lunch on the Web Site.

We will advise of the car pooling once the above is known.

ROMEO Lunch March17, 2011

Faith and Begorra ,

Would yerself be believing that this Thursday is our very own
Saint Paddy's day, that it is.
The faithful are then implored to be available to toast
the good man
at Molly Blooms in Stratford.
Soda bread and Guinness as well as a dram of the good Irish is awaiting.

An Irish Prayer is always in order:
'May you be half an hour in Heaven, before the
Devil knows you're there'.

But the greatest love --
the love above all loves,
Even greater than that of a mother...
Is the tender, passionate, undying love,
Of one beer drunken slob for another.

Health and a long life to you.
Land without rent to you.
A child every year to you.
And if you can't go to heaven,
May you at least die in Ireland.

for fellowship and cheer.

to grace the premises of The Chop House in Wellesley,

a feast that becomes our station.

Topics for conversation will include the following:

    the members on stuff.
2. New business from members.
3. The usual gossip about absent members and
4. Topical jokes with a sexual overtone.

Transportation will be coordinated, prior to embarking on our quest.

Remember, 'If you're not the lead dog, your view never changes.'
