New Hamburg ROMEOS Calling

The original purpose of the group was to bring together new neighbours who had moved from other parts of the Province of Ontario and also from other Provinces of Canada to our community of New Hamburg.

Initially the group was only composed of men from one street of the community but it has expanded to other areas as the need required. Initially the ROMEOS were run as a unique and isolated entity because the members had not been exposed to or were aware of the Organization's history and development. It only adopted the ROMEO name when it was found and referenced in a novel read by a member's wife.

The founding members then proceeded to allocate 'call signs' to each new participant based upon the Greek alphabet, Alpha to Omega, and grant a scroll to the new members.

Presently, we have 20 members as of January 1, 2013. This reflects a fluctuation of new and removed members from our inception. We may have to find a new alphabet very soon to maintain newer 'call signs'!!

Romeo Lunch, September 19, 2013

It's that time again when we plan on having lunch at an
eatery that lives up to the special requirements as dictated
by the elite tastes of our members i.e. beer and grub.

As such, the Committee in its infinite wisdom, revisited the
many locations of our past experiences and on a vote of 5 for,
1 against and 1 abstention it chose Kennedy's Irish Pub in
St. Agatha.

Privacy laws prevents the publishing of the names
and their voting  choices.

Key on the link below for the web site access.

Should you decide to accept this mission, please advise the writer
on your attendance and whether you can drive. Replies should be
returned by Tuesday of this week.

The car pooling will be issued on Wednesday.

This email will self destruct in 1 minute after you make a decision.

The Committee

Upon arriving at Kennedy's Pub we were greeted by the others who were
already there and waiting for the doors to open at 11:30 am.

After a few minutes we entered, and found tables together.

This was a good outing since 11 members joined for lunch.

Those attending were:

           Ken Mulholland                                   Carl Steinman
           Ron Lewis                                              Ross Shaver
           Ken Edgar                                              Wray Krompart
           Harry McCarthy                                   Rick Kieswetter
           Charlie Kagler                                       Bob Curry
           Dennis Savage

After our toast we were treated to a few jokes by Ron and Ross.

As part of the discussion, we considered the status of holding lunches
during the winter months since so many of our members were going
south or on holidays during this time over an extended period.
The resolution was that 'Beta' would cover the organizing over January
and that we would suspend lunch dates until the middle of March when
he returns.

Carl had some good news on the upcoming fitting for his new prosthesis.
He is still attending rehab exercise and is recovering nicely.

At this date we are missing our friend and lunch member, Phil, who is
busy with his own rehab. We hope to see him soon.

All in all a very pleasant outing for the Romeos.

Romeo Lunch, September 5, 2013

As we approach the last days of summer and head for what we
hope will be a magnificent autumn it is only fitting that the members
experience once again a new and exciting venue for our next lunch.

With that in mind, the Committee selected a lunch place that
meets these requirements and more. A little further afield than usual,
we travelled to 561 Hespeler Road South in Cambridge.

Check out the menu:

A final total of 6 members drove to the Beertown Pub and arrived
just before noon.

Once we were seated, 2 waitresses took our orders for drinks.
If you like beers from around the world, this is the place to visit.
We lost count of the number on the drink menu that described
each and their contents.
This was followed by the lunch requests from the group which
were as varied as the beers.
It also was a first for Ivan, who ordered Pad Thai as opposed to
his normal Fish and Chips. It also must be said that he ate his
Thai lunch with chopsticks, with an expertise that could only
be matched by a native from Asia.
The banter around the table involved John Matthews telling a joke
and the usual gossip about members who did not attend.
Since no dessert or coffee was ordered we left for home and were
back by 1:30 pm.
All agreed that we should repeat our visit to this pub in the future
and let the other members experience our pleasant lunch area.

Those attending were:
John Matthews, George Heath, Ken Moorehead, Ivan Grosleau,
Ron Lewis, Dennis Savage
